James Nehmer

Chief Financial Officer

James Nehmer is the chief financial officer at Africare.  He is responsible for setting the financial policy and direction of the organization, in addition to overseeing the strategy and compliance recognition for government contracts. As CFO, Mr. Nehmer also plays an integral role in the development and management of Africare’s budgeting and business strategies.

Mr. Nehmer has more than 25 years of high-level banking experience in the U.S. and internationally, and more than 10 years of experience in microfinance. Prior to joining Africare, he served as chief financial officer of TechnoServe where he managed the financial needs of small and medium enterprises.

Before that, Mr. Nehmer served as chief financial officer at FINCA International, where he brought the organization into the capital markets and fostered $300 million in growth during his tenure; as chief financial officer at Union Bank of Jamaica, he oversaw the successful merger and subsequent sale of five banks. Mr. Nehmer also served as both CEO and CFO of National Microfinance Bank (NMB) in Tanzania, and was part of the management team that made NMB the largest microfinance bank in Africa.

In addition to sitting on the board of 10 microfinance institutions in Africa and Eurasia, Mr. Nehmer worked for DAI in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as the chief financial officer before becoming the chief executive officer/managing director of the National Microfinance Bank in Dar es Salaam.

Mr. Nehmer holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and is a Certified Public Accountant.
