Africare's Gender Advisor Guest Speaker at International Women's Day Event in Abuja, Nigeria

March 9, 2012

On March 9, 2012, the International Women Community in Abuja organized a special event to celebrate the International Women's Day.  It was the second edition of such an important global event in Abuja to celebrate women's achievements and most importantly to recognise the strategic role women play in the society.

As a Gender, Communication and Social Development Expert with over ten years of experience in inclusive programming to reduce women's vulnerability caused by extreme poverty and ignorance, Sarah Mkeryi Amahson gratefully accepted to be one of the guest speakers and was honoured to share with more than two hundred women her unique insight into what women are still facing today.

She is currently Africare’s Gender Advisor on a USAID-funded community-based support project for Orphans and Vulnerable Children working in eleven states in Nigeria.  As a Gender Expert, she has seen that there is no limit to what women can achieve when given the opportunity and furthermore, women make a difference not only for themselves, but for their families and societies.  For Sarah every human being has the right to live in dignity and during her address, she placed the focus on women’s economic empowerment and leadership.
