U.S. Ambassador Alfonso E. Lenhardt visits Africare-Tanzania

WASHINGTON, September 26th, 2012 – On September 24th, 2012, The Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Republic of Tanzania, Alfronso E. Lenhardt, visited Pamoja Tuwalee project in Tanzania, USAID/PEPFAR funded project that focuses on Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC). The project is being implemented in the districts of Dodoma, Iringa, Njombe and Singida, where Africare-Tanzania is partnering with The Tanzania Home Economic Association (TAHEA) to provide care and support to OVC children and their caregivers. Ambassador Lendhardt, toured The Tanzania Home Economic Association (TAHEA) at Akiba House in Iringa town, where he met with Iringa Regional Commission delegates, TAHEA staff members and Africare-Tanzania PamojaTuwalee project leaders. “We are working with the Tanzania Home Economic Association and several other community strengthening organizations, governmental organizations and households to support the most vulnerable children in our communities, paying particular attention to HIV/AIDS. The U.S. Ambassador was impressed with Africare’s commitment to the care of our most vulnerable children and commended our efforts in working so well with the other organizations within our community.” said Africare-Tanzania, Team Leader, Aloyce Mkangaa. The Ambassador was presented with “The Pamoja Tuwalee Documentary: Sharing Responsibilities,” which highlights the project’s projected goal of serving over 150,000 children and 337,000 caregivers by 2015.
