Africare President Awarded Princeton’s Edward P. Bullard Distinguished Alumnus Award
November 2005—Africare President Julius E. Coles was presented the Edward P. Bullard Distinguished Alumnus Award at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs 10th Annual Students and Alumni of Color Symposium held on November 12-13, 2005. Students in the Woodrow Wilson School voted on this annual award, which recognizes an alumnus who has shown a distinguished record of services to communities of color and to Woodrow Wilson School students. Ceremony attendees included Anne-Marie Slaughter, Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School, faculty, administrators, and graduate students.
President Coles graduated from Wilson School of Public Policy in 1966, and currently serves as co-chairman of the school’s 75th Anniversary Celebration with Paul Volcker. Coles has also been a long-term member of the Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School Advisory Council, and has been a dedicated advocate for achieving more diversity among Princeton faculty and students. At a symposium dinner, Coles recalled when he was a student that the Wilson School student body only included one woman, one African and one African-American, and remarked, "What a change this institution has undergone."
