Detroit, Michigan, May 21, 2008—Africare, the oldest and largest African-American led organization specializing in African development, has selected Detroit for the launch of its nationwide faith-based campaign. “Lift Every Voice for Africa” hopes to provide opportunities for faith-based communities to support sustainable development programs in Africa.

Over 100 Detroit area African-American pastors have been invited to the kick-off campaign on Wednesday morning May 21. The breakfast meeting, hosted by Chrysler, will take place at the Detroit Athletic Club.

“Africare now reaches families and communities in 25 countries in every major region of Sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal to South
Africa and from Chad to Mozambique. Since its founding in 1970, Africare has delivered more than $710 million in assistance- over 2000 projects- to 36 countries Africa–wide,” stated W. Frank Fountain,
Chairman of the Africare Board of Directors and Chrysler Senior
Vice President, External Affairs and Public Policy.

In expressing his gratitude for this important event, Africare President Julius E. Coles noted Detroit’s well known reputation for charitable giving. “I cannot think of a better city in which to launch this uplifting campaign.”
