Food Security

Africare Food Security Review (AFSR)

Over the past 20 years, with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of Food for Peace (USAID FFP) and Title II. of U.S. Public Law 480, Africare has gained extensive experience carrying out food security programs in Africa. Drawing on that experience, Africare has launched the Africare Food Security Review series of technical papers. The papers' titles are listed below. HIV/AIDS

"Innovations in Education: The Role of the Education Sector in Combating HIV/AIDS" (11 pp., 231 KB, PDF).
Since 2002, Africare has been implementing its model care and support program for orphans and vulnerable children. This model, known under the acronym COPE (Community-based Orphan care, Protection and Empowerment), seeks to provide a comprehensive level of programming for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS and their caregivers.

"Youth Empowerment and Support (YES!) Project: A Southern Africa Experience" (9 pp., 199 KB, PDF). The Youth Empowerment and Support (YES!) Project was designed to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and expand risk-reduction choices among the most vulnerable youth from 15 to 24 years in Malawi, Zambia and South Africa.

"Man Enough to Care: Involving Men in Home-Based Services for People Living With HIV/AIDS in Rural Zimbabwe" (9 pp., 203 KB, PDF). This study explores the challenges of involving men in HIV/AIDS-related home-based care and the impact of male involvement on the quality of home-based care services in a rural Zimbabwe.
