Namibia (Google Maps)

Africare's work in Namibia, which began in 1993, initially focused on helping the people and government recover from the inequities of apartheid, while also addressing the kinds of basic development needs that face African countries continent-wide. The first program, in the remote Kunene region, organized and trained village committees to maintain water points on their own. A later water project, in the Caprivi region, also improved the infrastructure and promoted self-help maintenance over the long term. Nationwide, Africare has directly helped to redress the wrongs of apartheid through a human resource development project for black Namibians. The project entailed management training, executive internships and other forms of assistance to enable these historically disadvantaged Namibians to enter their country's corporate mainstream.
