Microenterprise

Because most Africans live in rural areas and work in the agricultural sector, Africare fights poverty in Africa by helping to develop agricultural enterprises: co-ops, farms-as-businesses, even village banks. Specific programs include:

  • Functional literacy
  • Vocational training
  • Management training
  • Training in credit and marketing
  • Micro-lending (provision of small, or "micro," loans)
  • Infrastructural development
  • Facilitation of market linkages

Africare's microenterprise development programs give special attention to smallholder farmers, women and youths ― because those are the least-advantaged of Africa's people.
