Africare's youngest donors are making their mark ... in a very BIG way! Every month, Africare will feature the fundraising efforts of children and youth around the world who are making a difference in the lives of families in Africa. Here are just a few of their amazing stories.

January 2007

Staten Island, NY

Four students in Ms. Sherry’s seventh grade at Elias Berstein School in Staten Island, NY, had been reprimanded for wasting food on a class trip. They decided to do something positive in response and now they have made a difference in the lives of some African kids and families in need. The students designed a fundraising program creating posters, decorating donation boxes, and making presentations to grade assemblies to ask for pennies, nickels and dimes for Africare, raising $245. $245.

Doughlassville, PA

An 11-year old from Doughlassville, Pennsylvania hosts a community walk-a-thon to raise over $286 $286 for Africare.

 

 

April 2007

Mauretown, VA

One of Africare’s youngest donors— a three-year-old  from Maurertown, VA had a cowboy party with some ponies for his birthday.  Instead of gifts, he asked all his friends to bring donations toward Africare.   Together, he and his friends donated $335 $335.00 for Africare!

 

 

September 2007

Edwards, CO

 In Edwards, CO, some birthday celebrants asked for donations to Africare instead of gifts, and collected $315. $315.

 

Giving Bowls Project

October 2007

Norwich Green, VT

Hundreds of colorful bowls, in all shapes and sizes, lined the tables of Norwich Green, Vermont, on October 14, 2007 as the community united to raise money and awareness to a very important issue: global hunger. Africare was nominated to receive the cash proceeds from the community event, totaling more than $8000!

Three New York middle-schoolers sold hot chocolate on the street on a cold January day to raise $220 $220 for Africare.
