Africare began working in Cote d'Ivoire in 1992, assisting refugees from the civil war in Liberia. Donated clothing and farm tools helped to meet basic needs among thousands of homeless Liberians in the province of Guiglo. The focus, however, was on helping the homeless to support themselves. From 1992 until 1998, a major Africare project enabled refugee farmers to grow enough food to feed themselves and to sell. In addition, Africare has assisted the people of Cote d'Ivoire through a variety of village-level agricultural projects and regional work in rural health care, including the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
Currently, Africare has no programs in Cote d'Ivoire.
