Nigeria

Africare has assisted Nigeria since 1978. At both the national and the village levels, Africare's work has varied widely, from food production and water resource development to the development of small businesses owned and run by women. Of particular note have been large-scale health projects in HIV/AIDS prevention and care, maternal and child health, family planning and onchocerciasis ("river blindness") control, which have created trained networks of rural people to deliver preventive care to remote areas.

Current Africare assistance to Nigeria:

  • Food production
  • HIV prevention
  • Assistance to AIDS orphans
  • Maternal and child health
  • Literacy and vocational training
