On Sunday, May 18, Africare Board Member Earl Stafford and his family generously hosted a gathering of Africare supporters and partners.
Chairman and CEO of the Stafford Foundation as well as CEO of the Wentworth Group, LLC, Mr. Stafford is the newest member of Africare’s Board of Directors. However, the Staffords have for many years been committed to supporting Africare’s mission, and Sunday’s event was not the first Africare gathering they have held.
The guest of honor for the afternoon’s proceedings was the President of Liberia, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. After introductory remarks from Africare Board Chairman Stephen Cashin, Mr. Stafford himself and Africare’s Chief of Staff and Chief Development & Communications Officer Kendra Davenport, President Sirleaf addressed and answered questions from the more than 100 guests in attendance.
President Sirleaf, winner of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, outlined the challenges Liberia faces, placing the country’s current situation in the context of its turbulent history, and inspired the audience with her assessment of Liberia’s recent successes and bright prospects for the future. A long-time ally of Africare in Liberia, where Africare has operated since 1992 in the midst of Liberia’s civil war, President Sirleaf also expressed her gratitude for Africare’s partnership and dedication to improving lives in the country.
Thanks to President Sirleaf for her kind words and her leadership. Thanks to the Stafford family for their continued initiative on Africare’s behalf. And thanks to all those in attendance for your conversation, company, questions and support!
