Power Forward

On November 19, 2013, the National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), Africare and ExxonMobil launched “Power Forward,” a youth engagement initiative using basketball to develop health, leadership and life skills in Nigeria.

“Power Forward” is active in 10 public and private high schools in Abuja and is engaging 300 students, with equal representation of boys and girls. The curriculum, developed in collaboration with local education officials and the Nigerian NGO Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative, teaches leadership skills and builds health awareness through a combination of classroom and athletic activities.
