Africare Partners with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for Nelson Mandela Tribute

WASHINGTON (December 12, 2013) — Africare, a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of people in Africa, today announced its partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) for a candlelight vigil honoring the legacy of Nelson Mandela. The Alpha, Xi Omega, Xi Zeta Omega and Rho Mu Omega Chapters will participate in a community ceremony with Africare on Sunday, December 15, 2013 on The Yard at Howard University at 5:00 p.m.

Africare Partners with Japan to Construct Maternal Waiting Homes in Liberia

WASHINGTON (April 18, 2013) —The Japanese government and Africare/Liberia signed a grant agreement on March 12, 2013, for the construction and full furnishing, including generators to supply electricity, of two maternal waiting homes (MWHs) in the Haindii and Fenutole localities of Bong County in Liberia. The grant is valued at more than $112,000.

Africare Hosts Sold-Out Crowd for “Girl Rising” Screening

This groundbreaking documentary is part of a global campaign to create awareness for girls’ education around the world including Afghanistan, Haiti and Sierra Leone.
