Africare Celebrates Power in Africa at its 2014 Creating Opportunities for Development in Africa Summit

WASHINGTON (April 14, 2014) — Africare, the oldest and largest African-American led non-profit committed to advancing development in Africa, hosted more than 200 global leaders in business and government on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at its inaugural Creating Opportunities for Development in Africa (CODA) Summit at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. The event honored General Electric (GE) and Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote with awards for their work in powering the African continent.

Health fund brings relief to Tarime villagers

www.dailynews.co.tz — Establishment of a Community Health Fund scheme has become a big relief to hundreds of poor families in nine rural villages of Tarime District. The scheme was introduced in the villages early last year by Africare through its Lake Zone Health and Economic Development Initiative.

ABUJA, Nigeria (November 19, 2013) — The National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), Africare and ExxonMobil today announced the launch of “Power Forward,” a youth engagement initiative that will use basketball to develop health, leadership and life skills in Nigeria. Nigerian native and Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, fellow countryman and former NBA player Obinna Ekezie and three-time WNBA champion Swin Cash joined leading Nigerian government officials in tipping off the program today during a two-day launch event in Abuja.
