Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) need caretakers. More than that though, they need well-prepared and well-equipped caretakers. Africare/Tanzania’s Pamoja Tuwalee project partners with several local Tanzanian organizations to empower communities eager to care for children in need to do so to the best of their abilities. Support in income-generation helps households better provide for OVC and free up money for school fees. Psychosocial support helps children and adults alike better understand and cope with the difficult circumstances OVC face. Food and nutrition services help families prepare fuller, more nutritious meals so children can continue to grow physically and mentally.
That’s just a sample of what Africare/Tanzania and our partners have accomplished. With funding from USAID and PEPFAR, the Pamoja Tuwalee OVC project has reached more than 73,500 OVC with essential care services. Check out the video below to see a few of the ways this has been accomplished as Africare/Tanzania educates and commemorates World AIDS Day 2014.
