Africare In the News

Africare recently completed a sizeable Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) in Schools project, providing clean water, improved sanitation and hygiene education for 30 schools, 15 in Malawi and 15 in Tanzania.

A consortium of donors – Proctor & Gamble, African Well Fund, Water for Life, and the Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group – supported the project, enabling Africare to use a variety of interventions like water purification, rainwater harvesting, latrines and education sessions to reach more than 7,500 students.

Creative partnerships help Africare achieve such notable successes, but not all organizations operate identically. The Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group, in coordination with Rotary International, hosted a webinar on “lessons learned” from the WASH in Schools project, and Africare Director of International Programs Eric Lundgren presented on how Rotary International is a different type of donor for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and how being aware of these differences helps NGOs and Rotary collaborate more effectively.
